In Term 4, Year 8 Technology students enjoyed a we

In Term 4, Year 8 Technology students enjoyed a weaving workshop with local contemporary First Nations weaver, Tegan Murdock from @ngumpie_weaving.

Through the lens of TAS learning areas Food and Agriculture, Textiles and Design, and Design and Technology, students explored the shared history and culture of Australian First Nations peoples. The unit 'Bush to Bowl' challenged their understanding and fostered intellectual, social and moral awareness about the historical and contemporary experiences of First Nations peoples in Australia.

As part of these studies, Tegan, who specialises in teaching cultural basket-making techniques, taught the girls to use a range of innovated materials and techniques used by First Nations peoples for basket weaving. This learning experience encouraged students to become active and informed citizens, while learning a special new skill!

This month, our Pymble Athletics students have been busy with not one but two national competitions, representing Pymble at the 2024 Australian Athletics All Schools Championships and the National Schools Challenge!

The Australian Athletics All Schools Championships saw our athletes competing across three days under the hot Brisbane sun. Despite the heat, the girls gave it their all, receiving four gold, two silver and three bronze medals for their outstanding performances.

The National Schools Challenge also saw Pymble students achieving excellent results with the Seniors and Intermediates both placing second and the Juniors placing 4th!

The value of hands-on experience cannot be overrat

The value of hands-on experience cannot be overrated. Throughout the year, Agriculture students complemented their theory lessons by honing their skills in husbandry practices, research and horticulture at Pymble's Agricultural plot.

Students cultivated a range of fresh produce and cared for a range of animals from baby chicks, sheep, ducks, cattle and goats.

To complement their study of French culture and food, Year 9 French students were excited to say 'bonjour' to a French excursion at the end of Term 4 where they could experience what they'd studied firsthand.

The group spent the morning at the @artgalleryofnsw viewing works by surrealist painter René Magritte, followed by a delicious lunch of galettes at the @fourfrogscreperie.

Our Robotics students made us #pymbleproud at a line up of National Championships, including the VEX V5 Nationals, VEX IQ Nationals and FTC Nationals!

🤖 The VEX V5 National Championships brought together 37 teams from across Australia, with five Pymble teams who were ready to showcase their skills and hard work after months of preparation and experience gained from previous competitions. Pymble's five teams performed exceptionally well, with all advancing to the playoffs, including three who made it to the quarter-finals and one reaching the semi-finals!

The competition wasn’t just about matches; it was about innovation and spirit. Team 65100B was honoured with the Create Award, recognising their ingenuity and engineering excellence. Meanwhile, Team 65100F received the Energy Award, a testament to their infectious enthusiasm and passion for robotics.

🤖 The VEX IQ National Championships brought together 54 of the top robotics teams from across Australia, with six Pymble teams showcasing their skills on the national stage.

A standout moment came when Team 6510V was awarded the prestigious Amaze Award. This recognition celebrates teams whose robots demonstrate consistently high performance, innovative design and exceptional build quality.

🤖 The FTC National Championships brought together 42 teams from across Australia, with five dedicated teams from Pymble, each prepared to showcase their skills and passion.

By the end of the second day, two Pymble teams had advanced to the playoffs: Team 23636, Pymble Pterojazama Party Sharks, and Team 18359, Pymble Lion Cubs. The teams joined forces in a spirited quarter-final performance, demonstrating the teamwork, strategy and resilience that had brought them this far.

Congratulations to all our Robotics students for representing Pymble so well at these national competitions!

Congratulations to the Pymble swimmers who made us #pymbleproud at the NSW State Championships.

Twenty-three Pymble students participated in this event, and achieved the following exceptional results:

- Knox Pymble Swim Club achieved first place overall
- Ninety personal best times
- Thirty-four top-ten swims
- Thirteen medals (three gold 🥇, three silver 🥈, seven bronze 🥉)
- Eight relays in top ten
- Fourth in the 10x50 free relay
- Three first-time qualifiers for nationals in April!

The Future You Festival was a wonderful way for Ye

The Future You Festival was a wonderful way for Year 10 to wrap up Term 4, providing them with the opportunity to think more deeply about what's to come.

Over the course of three days, students attended a range of workshops and keynotes offered by staff and industry professionals. The workshops encouraged deeper self-awareness and understanding of personal strengths and values, offered valuable insights into the working world and future pathways, developed an understanding of transferable skills and emphasised the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

The workshops and keynotes included topics such as Preparing for the Perfect Interview, Future of work – your skills are transferable, The Science of Wellbeing: Understanding Happiness, Developing Your Portfolio: Work and Overseas Experiences and more!

Thank you to the staff and industry professionals (including some Pymble alumni) who offered invaluable insights to our students.

Clarissa Auffermann (2009) started Boarding at Pym

Clarissa Auffermann (2009) started Boarding at Pymble in 2007, following in the footsteps of her mother and older sisters. She credits her time at Pymble for fostering her own love of education, saying 'Pymble was to me the source of inspiration to educate others'.

Clarissa's passion for teaching has taken her across the globe from Peru, Germany, Indonesia, India and Vietnam. Now based in Zürich, Clarissa continues to change the world with the power of education.
